Kristin grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and is the daughter of a Presbyterian pastor. Her family did not have a television until she was in sixth grade, so Kristin spent most of her time voraciously reading and making up imaginary worlds. When they did finally purchase a T.V., it was only for the purpose of watching a few selective movies on the VCR, which were strictly limited to Disney, Cary Grant, and Alfred Hitchcock. Fortunately, Kristin’s family has since expanded their viewing repertoire, but she is grateful for the absence of television during the formative years of the development of her imagination. All of this reading perpetuated Kristin through her years at Belmont University where she received a BA in Literature, and minored in studio art. After college, she had a one-woman art show of portraits done in oils at TAG gallery in Nashville. Following this she became interested in the art of styling hair and moved to Los Angeles to attend Vidal Sassoon Academy, where she completed her studies and became a licensed hairstylist. She always knew she would pursue writing one day; but she imagined that it would be as an older woman with her then grey hair piled into a bun and a small dog sleeping on her lap, as she looked out onto the calm waters of retirement. The writing bug bit her much sooner than she expected, and after five years of working as a full-time stylist, she wrote her first novel, Recovering Ramona. Working as a hairstylist in Music City allows her to meet a myriad of characters, and listening to stories all day long gives her imagination plenty of fodder. She believes that the two crafts of writing and styling complement each other well, and balance her inspiration. Kristin lives with her husband Rann and their Yorkie Audrey. |
